What is a PDQ card machine?

A PDQ card machine is simply a machine that processes secure payment transactions from a credit or debit card. PDQ is an acronym that stands for ‘Process Data Quickly’.

You might also hear a PDQ card machine referred to as a card machine, card reader, card terminal, or Chip and PIN machine. When card machines were first introduced to the UK, they were more commonly known as PDQ machines, and it’s a term that is still used by some today.

A PDQ machine is simply a card machine, so it works in the same way that card machines work. With the ability to accept credit or debit card – either by contactless payment or Chip and PIN – a PDQ card machine is used to read the information on a customer’s payment card and processes the transaction.

A PDQ (Process Data Quickly) machine is also known as a card machine, card reader, card terminal, or Chip and PIN machine. These terms are all pretty much interchangeable.
